Are you not keeping a blog? Here are three reasons why you should
As of October 2006, there was a reported 57 million blogs registered with Technorati. Now you may think that this number is huge, but in fact there are probably more blogs than that. This number only counts the ones that are public, when in fact many blogs are private and some are just missed by the counters.
So if there are 57 millions plus blogs out there, why aren’t you blogging or more importantly why should you?
At a recent Northern Voices conference in Vancouver, Richard Eriksson from Bryght mentioned the following three reasons:
1. Blogs create relationships
Simply by sharing your thoughts and ideas, you’ll discover others who share or disagree with your opinions. More often than not, we’re afraid to say what we really mean, but by keeping a blog we allow ourselves to be a bit more distant and thus say things that we would never say to someone face to face. Families and friends are generally much more open on the Web than they would be if they were simply gathered around the dinner table.
2. Blogs improve your communication and writing skills
Can your write? Then you can blog. Can’t write, then blogging will make you a better writer.
Writing daily allows you to create your style and is bound to get better if you keep practicing. It’s important to remember when you do begin to write to keep your tone informal and just be yourself. The most successful blogs are the ones that don’t use “business jargon”.
3. Blogs allow you to promote yourself
If you don’t do it, no one else will. Blogs are a must for self promotion. Are you a writer, journalist or playwright? Then a blog is a must. But your into movies and art, you say? Blogs can also be used to link to images, videos and podcast. Yes, the days of sending resumes in word documents are over. Blogging is proving much more efficient.
