Promoting your passion via the Web

Sharkwater opened in theatres recently. Written and directed by Rob Stewart, Sharkwater is a film about sharks and one man’s passion. Through his film, Stewart manages to show that each and one of us has the tools required to make changes in the world. Others have commented that, following a screening and question period in Toronto, Stewart explained that large organizations are not needed to create change. Individuals can make changes simply by being passionate. He clearly demonstrated this by making his movie.

Of course, you might say, that’s great, but I can’t make a motion picture. If you are passionate about something there are ways for you to get your message accross. Publishing a book or submitting articles to a magazine would be one way, but using the web is even easier. The following avenues could be used for you to share your opinion.

I recently came accross the following video on Youtube via Will Pate‘s blog. Hans Rosling presents us with data and effectively (and amusingly) debunks the myths about the Third World. This is a brilliant example of how technology can be used to spread your message. Before YouTube, one would have had to go to Sweden and attend Rosling’s class or attend a conference at which he was presenting. Now with the Web, he can easily spread his message and demonstrate his passion.

If you are passionate about something, stop thinking about it, do something. And if you do, do tell.
