5 Things you can do to boost your Blog's Success
One of our clients and a fabulous interior designer, Patricia Gray, recently began blogging. Perhaps she was inspired by Christine’s post on why you should have a blog. As a recap, the 3 reasons Christine cited were:
- Blogs create relationships
- Blogs improve your communication and writing skills
- Blogs allow you to promote yourself
Patricia Gray’s blog is living proof of these principles. She’s an avid and effective blogger, writing voraciously and including lots of juicy pictures in her posts. As a result, she’s creating relationships with the many readers who’ve found her site because of the compelling content in her blog.
Not only is Patricia promoting herself, but other bloggers are taking notice and now promoting her as well. Patricia was just interviewed at the blog “Life in a Venti cup“.
What can we learn from the popularity of Patricia’s blog? May I suggest…
5 things you can do to boost your Blog’s success:
- Say something interesting or useful. Your blog only matters to those who find it and read it. Useful, interesting posts are more likely to generate discussion which in turn generates traffic.
- Write often. The more you write, the better you’ll get at it and the more likely your content will be found.
- Be yourself. Blog writing is more casual than business content. Reading a blog can sometimes give you the feeling you really know the author. This is a good thing because it makes people more comfortable with posting comments.
- Treat each post like a conversation. When visitors take the time to comment, they’ve done you a great service. Reply often with your own comments. The result is more like a conversation and less like a broadcast.
- Share links and love. As you discover great things/ideas/people on the web or in your industry, write about them. Your readers will appreciate the new discoveries, and the people you’re linking to may return the favour.
I find that commenting regularly on other people’s blog posts also helps. If you say something valuable and applicable in a comment, visitors are more likely to check out your own blog for more.
Me too. Ever time someone comments on my site I go see what they’ve been up to on theirs.
Hi Tzaddi
Thanks for mentioning me in this article.
Great points you have brought out here and I will add that Blogging is also a lot of fun.
Mhairi and Patricia have reminded me of another thing that helps your blog: wrapping up your posts with a question or invitation. I should have finished this post with “What works for you? I’d love to hear your tips.” …let’s just pretend I did, shall we? ;-)
